WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Dodge Ram Wagon, 1995 Dodge Ram Van, 1995 Dodge Pickup, and 1995 Dodge Dakota. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Fuel pump is located in fuel pump module. Fuel pump module is located in top of fuel tank. Fuel pump module includes a fuel pump reservoir, a separate in-tank fuel inlet strainer, fuel gauge sending unit, a fuel return line and a fuel supply line. Fuel pump is an immersible electric pump with permanent magnet motor. Pump incorporates an inlet strainer attached to pump pick-up.
On Dakota, one check valve is used in fuel return line, which restricts fuel movement in either direction to maintain fuel line pressure when pump is not operating. On all models, voltage to operate pump is supplied through fuel pump relay.
