Fuel Pressure Regulator

Fuel pressure regulator is a mechanical device, used to maintain a constant pressure across fuel injector tip. A spring loaded rubber diaphragm is used to cover a fuel return port. When fuel pressure reaches a preselected pressure, the rubber diaphragm is forced off of fuel return port and excess fuel pressure is routed back to tank. Spring and rubber diaphragm will move from an open to closed position and back keeping fuel pressure constant. See the GAS FUEL PUMP REGULATED PRESSURE . table. Pressure regulator includes an internal fuel filter. Fuel filter/pressure regulator is located on top of in-tank fuel pump module. Excess fuel is routed directly into fuel tank without using a fuel return line. See Fig 1 .
