Test NTC-3B - Checking Fuel Pressure & Injector Operation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Dodge Pickup and 1995 Dodge Cab & Chassis. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING: High fuel pressure may be present in fuel lines. Open fuel system with caution. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE  procedure.
NOTE: Injector circuits are paired No. 1 and No. 10, No. 2 and No. 7, No. 3 and No. 6, No. 4 and No. 9, and No. 5 and No. 8.
  1. Using scan tool, stop fuel system actuation. Release fuel pressure. Disconnect inoperative injector connector. Check connector for damaged or pushed-out terminals. Repair connector as necessary. Perform TEST VER-2. If connector is okay, go to next step.
  2. Using scan tool, actuate fuel system. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on inoperative injector connector, Auto Shutdown (ASD) relay output circuit (Dark Green/Orange wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Dark Green/Orange wire between injector and splice. Perform TEST VER-2.
  3. If voltage is more than 10 volts, stop actuation test. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector. Using an external ohmmeter. Check resistance of inoperative driver circuit between PCM connector terminal and inoperative injector connector. See INJECTOR CIRCUIT TESTS table.
    INJECTOR CIRCUIT TESTS

Injectors No. Wire Color PCM Terminal No.
    1 & 10 WHT/DK BLU 16
    2 & 7 LT GRN/BLK 58
    3 & 6 YEL/WHT 14
    4 & 9 TAN 15
    5 & 8 LT BLU/BRN 13
  4. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, release fuel pressure. Replace faulty injector. Perform TEST VER-2. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open circuit between injector and PCM. Perform TEST VER-2.
