Test TC-28A - Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid Circuit (DTC 37)

- Using scan tool, erase DTCs and actuate Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) solenoid. Overdrive solenoid/TCC solenoid connector is located on left side of transmission. Wait 10 seconds, then read DTCs using scan tool. If TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID CIRCUIT DTC returns, go to step 5).
- If TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID CIRCUIT DTC does not return, wiggle wiring harness from overdrive solenoid/TCC solenoid connector to Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Ensure actuator test is still running and try to reset DTC. Using scan tool, read DTCs. If TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID CIRCUIT DTC returns, repair wiring harness where wiggling caused problem to occur. Perform TEST VER-2.
- If TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID CIRCUIT DTC does not return, condition required to set DTC is not present now. TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID CIRCUIT DTC sets if TCC solenoid or TCC relay control circuit (Orange/Black wire) is not in its proper state when monitored by PCM.
- Possible causes are open or short in TCC solenoid or TCC relay control circuit (Orange/Black wire), open or short in TCC solenoid or TCC relay coil, and open in ignition 12-volt feed circuit (Dark Blue wire). Test is complete. Perform TEST VER-2.
- Disconnect and inspect overdrive solenoid/TCC solenoid connector. Repair as necessary. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on overdrive solenoid/TCC solenoid connector, ignition 12-volt feed circuit (Dark Blue wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in Dark Blue wire. Perform TEST VER-2.
- If voltage is more than 10 volts, turn ignition off. Disconnect and inspect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector for damaged, pushed-out or miswired terminals. If connector is not okay, repair as necessary. Perform TEST VER-2.
- If connector is okay, use scan tool in ohmmeter mode to check resistance of PCM connector terminal No. 54, TCC solenoid or relay control circuit (Orange/Black wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Orange/Black wire. Perform TEST VER-2.
- If resistance is more than 5 ohms, use external ohmmeter to check resistance of TCC solenoid or relay control circuit (Orange/Black wire) between PCM connector terminal No. 54 and overdrive solenoid/TCC solenoid connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Orange/Black wire. Perform TEST VER-2.
- If resistance is less than 5 ohms, turn ignition off. Reconnect overdrive solenoid/TCC solenoid connector. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on PCM connector terminal No. 54, TCC solenoid or relay control circuit (Orange/Black wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, replace TCC solenoid or relay. Perform TEST VER-2. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace PCM. Perform TEST VER-2.
