Test TC-27A - Trans Overdrive Solenoid Circuit (DTC 45)

  1. Using scan tool, erase DTCs. Using scan tool, actuate overdrive solenoid. Overdrive solenoid/Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) solenoid connector is located on left side of transmission. Wait 10 seconds, then read DTCs using scan tool. If TRANS OVERDRIVE SOLENOID CIRCUIT DTC returns, go to step 5).
  2. If TRANS OVERDRIVE SOLENOID CIRCUIT DTC does not return, wiggle wiring harness from overdrive solenoid/TCC solenoid connector to Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Ensure actuator test is still running and attempt to reset DTC. Using scan tool, read DTCs. If TRANS OVERDRIVE SOLENOID CIRCUIT DTC returns, repair wiring harness where wiggling caused problem to occur. Perform TEST VER-2.
  3. If TRANS OVERDRIVE SOLENOID CIRCUIT DTC does not return, condition required to set DTC is not present at this time. TRANS OVERDRIVE SOLENOID CIRCUIT DTC sets if overdrive solenoid control circuit (Orange/White wire) is not in its proper state (circuit voltage low when solenoid is off; circuit voltage high when solenoid is on) when monitored by Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
  4. Possible causes are: open or short in overdrive solenoid control circuit (Orange/White wire), open or short in overdrive solenoid coil, or open in ignition 12-volt feed circuit (Dark Blue wire). Test is complete. Perform TEST VER-2.
  5. Disconnect and inspect overdrive solenoid/TCC solenoid connector. Repair as necessary. Perform TEST VER-2. If connector is okay, using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on overdrive solenoid/TCC solenoid connector, ignition 12-volt feed circuit (Dark Blue wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in Dark Blue wire. Perform TEST VER-2.
  6. If voltage is more than 10 volts, turn ignition off. Disconnect and inspect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector for damaged, pushed-out or miswired terminals. If connector is not okay, repair as necessary. Perform TEST VER-2.
  7. If connector is okay, put scan tool in ohmmeter mode. Using scan tool, check resistance of PCM connector terminal No. 55, overdrive solenoid control circuit (Orange/White wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Orange/White wire. Perform TEST VER-2.
  8. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, use an external ohmmeter to check resistance of overdrive solenoid control circuit (Orange/White wire) between PCM connector terminal No. 55 and overdrive solenoid/TCC solenoid connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Orange/White wire. Perform TEST VER-2.
  9. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, turn ignition off. Reconnect overdrive solenoid/TCC solenoid connector. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on PCM connector terminal No. 55, overdrive solenoid control circuit (Orange/White wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, replace overdrive solenoid. Perform TEST VER-2. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace PCM. Perform TEST VER-2.
