Test TC-12A - Idle ADAP Mem At Lean Limit Or Idle ADAP Mem At Rich Limit (DTC 52)
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Dodge Ram Wagon, 1995 Dodge Ram Van, 1995 Dodge Pickup, and 1995 Dodge Dakota. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- IDLE ADAP MEM AT LEAN LIMIT or IDLE ADAP MEM AT RICH LIMIT DTCs can be caused by several conditions not related to Powertrain Control Module (PCM) electronics. Idle adaptive memory is designed to aid in fuel/air control. Idle adaptive memory function is to adapt fuel/air mixture to correct for fuel pressure differences and other mechanical changes, such as engine wear and mechanical malfunctions.
- Idle adaptive memory affects Oxygen Sensor (O2S) system by causing fuel control system to go to open loop mode when O2S has indicated a continuous lean or rich mixture of exhaust gas. If engine is running rich, PCM adapts fuel/air mixture lean. If engine is running lean, PCM adapts fuel/air mixture rich. Possible causes are excessive engine wear, incorrect fuel pressure, and mechanical malfunctions.
