Test NTC-5A - Checking Coolant Sensor Calibration

  1. Start engine. Using scan tool, read coolant sensor value. If engine temperature is more than 180°F, allow engine to cool to 150°F. Observe scan tool and allow engine to reach normal operating temperature (more than 180°F). If coolant temperature value did not increase smoothly, check for mechanical cooling problems. Replace coolant sensor if mechanical cooling problems are not present. Perform TEST VER-2.
  2. If coolant temperature value increased smoothly, but did not increase to more than 180°F, check for mechanical cooling problems. Replace coolant sensor if mechanical cooling problems are not present. Perform TEST VER-2. If coolant temperature value increased smoothly to more than 180°F, coolant sensor is okay. Test is complete.
