Test NTC-4A - Checking Fuel Injectors

  1. Using scan tool, individually actuate all 8 fuel injectors. If all injectors click, fuel injectors are okay, Test is complete.
  2. If any fuel injectors do not click, actuate fuel system for 5 seconds using scan tool, then stop actuation test. Using scan tool, read Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fuel pressure for 20 seconds. If fuel pressure is less than 10 psi, go to TEST NS-3A.
  3. If fuel pressure is more than 10 psi, locate inoperable injector(s). Using scan tool, actuate injector next to suspect injector. Install actuating injector harness connector onto suspect injector. If suspect injector does not click, replace injector. Perform TEST VER-2.
  4. If suspect injector clicks, stop actuation test using scan tool. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, actuate fuel system and check voltage on suspect fuel injector connector, ASD relay output circuit (Dark Green/Orange wire). If voltage is less than 5 volts, repair open in Dark Green/Orange wire. Perform TEST VER-2.
  5. If voltage is more than 5 volts, and with scan tool still actuating fuel system, connect a jumper wire to Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector (DO NOT disconnect PCM connector), injector driver circuit and momentarily ground circuit. See PCM CONNECTOR TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION table below.

    (1) White/Light Blue wire on AB body.
    (2) White/Yellow wire on AB body.
    (3) White wire on AB body.
    (4) White/Brown wire on AB body
    (5) White/Tan wire on AB body.
    (6) White/Gray wire on AB body; Dark Blue/Gray wire on AN body; Red/Yellow wire on BR body.
    (7) White/Black wire on AB body; Pink/Black wire on AN body; Gray wire on BR body.
    (8) White/Red wire on AB body; Light Green/Black wire on AN body; Brown/Dark Blue wire on BR body.
  6. If suspect injector clicks, replace PCM. Perform TEST VER-2. If suspect injector does not click, repair open in suspect driver circuit between PCM and injector.
  7. Start engine. Allow it to reach normal operating temperature (more than 180°F). Individually, disconnect each injector connector while observing engine for a drop in RPM as injector is disconnected.
  8. If engine speed drops more than 50 RPM on all cylinders, test passed. Perform TEST VER-2. If engine speed does not drop more than 50 RPM on any cylinder, perform appropriate test. See INJECTOR DIAGNOSTIC TEST table below.
