Test TC-35B - Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid Circuit

- Using scan tool, actuate Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) solenoid. Wait 10 seconds. Using scan tool, read trouble codes. If TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID CIRCUIT trouble code does not return, go to next step. If TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID CIRCUIT trouble code returns, go to step 4).
- TCC actuation test should still be running. Wiggle wiring harness from TCC solenoid relay to PCM. Using scan tool, read trouble codes. If TCC RELAY CONTROL CIRCUIT trouble code returns, repair wiring harness as necessary. Perform TEST VER-2. If TCC RELAY CONTROL CIRCUIT trouble code does not return, condition required to set trouble code is not present at this time.
- TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID CIRCUIT trouble code sets if an open or short is detected in TCC solenoid control circuit. Possible causes are: open or shorted TCC solenoid control circuit (Orange/Black wire) open or shorted TCC solenoid coil, or open fused ignition switch output circuit (Dark Blue wire on AB and AN bodies; Light Green/Black wire on BR body) to solenoid. Test is complete. Perform TEST VER-2.
- Disconnect TCC solenoid connector. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on TCC solenoid connector, fused ignition switch output circuit (Dark Blue wire on AB and AN bodies; Light Green/Black wire on BR body). If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair Dark Blue wire, Light Green/Black wire or Light Blue wire as necessary. Perform TEST VER-2. If voltage is more than 10 volts, turn ignition off.
- Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of PCM connector terminal No. 54, TCC solenoid control circuit (Orange/Black wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Orange/Black wire or Violet/Yellow wire. Perform TEST VER-2. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of TCC solenoid control circuit (Orange/Black wire) between PCM connector terminal No. 54 and TCC solenoid connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Orange/Black wire or Violet/Yellow wire. Perform TEST VER-2. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, reconnect transmission solenoid connector. Turn ignition on.
- Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on PCM connector terminal No. 54, TCC solenoid control circuit (Orange/Black wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace PCM. Perform TEST VER-2. If resistance is less than 10 volts, replace TCC solenoid. Perform TEST VER-2.
