Test NS-7A - Inspecting Idle Air Control Motor Operation

  1. While holding throttle 1/4 of way down, attempt to start engine. If engine does not start and stay running, go to TEST NS-8A. If engine starts and stays running, release throttle and turn ignition off. Disconnect and inspect Idle Air Control (IAC) motor connector. Repair as necessary. Turn ignition on.
  2. Using scan tool, actuate IAC motor. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on IAC motor connector, IAC No. 3 driver circuit (Gray/Red wire). If voltage is less than one volt, go to TEST NS-7B. If voltage is more than one volt, check voltage on IAC motor connector, IAC No. 1 driver circuit (Brown/White wire), using scan tool.
  3. If voltage is less than one volt, go to TEST NS-7C. If voltage is more than one volt, check voltage on IAC motor connector, IAC No. 4 driver circuit (Violet/Black wire), using scan tool. If voltage is less than one volt, go to TEST NS-7D. If voltage is more than one volt, use scan tool to check voltage on IAC motor connector, IAC No. 2 driver circuit (Yellow/Black wire). If voltage is less than one volt, go to TEST NS-7E.
  4. If voltage is more than one volt, turn ignition off. Remove IAC motor from throttle body. Reconnect IAC motor connector. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, actuate IAC motor. If IAC motor pintle moves in and out, go to TEST NS-8A. If IAC motor pintle does not move in and out, replace IAC motor. Perform TEST VER-1.
