Test NS-6B - Correcting No Response Condition

  1. If ignition was not on when NO RESPONSE message was displayed, turn ignition switch to ON position to get a response. Test is complete. If ignition was on when NO RESPONSE message was displayed, turn ignition off. Disconnect scan tool from Data Link Connector (DLC). Disconnect and inspect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector. Repair as necessary.
  2. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of DLC Serial Communications Interface (SCI) transmit circuit (Pink wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Pink wire. Perform TEST VER-1. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, use an external ohmmeter to check resistance of DLC SCI receive circuit (Light Green wire).
  3. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Light Green wire. Perform TEST VER-1. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, use an external ohmmeter to check resistance of SCI transmit circuit (Pink wire). between PCM connector terminal No. 25 and DLC. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Pink wire. Perform TEST VER-1.
  4. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, use an external ohmmeter to check resistance of SCI receive circuit (Light Green wire) between PCM connector terminal No. 45 and DLC. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Light Green wire. Perform TEST VER-1.
  5. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, connect scan tool to a known functional DLC on another vehicle. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, read DTCs. If scan tool does not display NO RESPONSE, replace original vehicle's PCM. Perform TEST VER-1. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE, replace scan tool cartridge with another cartridge.
  6. Using scan tool, read DTCs. If scan tool does not display NO RESPONSE, replace scan tool cartridge. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE, replace scan tool adapter cable with another adapter cable. Using scan tool, read DTCs. If scan tool does not display NO RESPONSE, replace scan tool adapter cable. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE, repair or replace scan tool.
