Test TC-32B - Ignition Coil #1 Primary Circuit

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Plymouth Voyager, 1995 Plymouth Grand Voyager, 1995 Dodge Grand Caravan, and 1995 Dodge Caravan. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: For circuit and connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring diagrams, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  section at the end of this article.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ignition coil connector. Check connector for damaged or pushed-out terminals. Repair as necessary. Perform TEST VER-2. If connector is okay, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, actuate ignition coil No. 1. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on ignition coil connector Auto Shutdown (ASD) output circuit (Dark Green/Orange wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Dark Green/Orange wire. Perform TEST VER-2.
  3. If voltage is more than 10 volts, using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of ignition coil No. 1 primary circuit. Connect one ohmmeter lead to ignition coil connector cylinders No. 1 and 4 pin, and other ohmmeter lead to ignition coil connector battery positive pin. See Fig 1 . If resistance is more than 2 ohms, replace ignition coil. Perform TEST VER-2.
  4. If resistance is less than 2 ohms, turn ignition off. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of PCM connector terminal No. 19, ignition coil No. 1 driver circuit (Black/Gray wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Black/Gray wire. Perform TEST VER-2.
  5. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, check resistance of ignition coil driver circuit (Black/Gray wire) between ignition coil connector and PCM connector terminal No. 19 using an external ohmmeter. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Black/Gray wire. Perform TEST VER-2. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace PCM. Perform TEST VER-2.
