Test TC-7C - No Vehicle Speed Sensor Signal

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) connector. Inspect terminals. Repair as required. Perform TEST VER-2. If terminals are okay, turn ignition on. Put scan tool in voltmeter mode.
  2. Using scan tool, check voltage at VSS connector Violet/Black wire. If voltage is less than 7 volts, repair open in Violet/Black wire. Perform TEST VER-2. If voltage is more than 7 volts, go to next step.
  3. Using scan tool, check voltage at VSS connector White/Orange wire. If voltage is less than 4 volts, go to TEST TC-7D. If voltage is more than 4 volts, go to next step.
  4. Connect one end of a jumper wire to VSS connector White/Orange wire. Using scan tool, read vehicle speed. While observing scan tool, tap other end of jumper wire to VSS connector Black/Light Blue wire.
  5. If scan tool does not display more than 0 MPH, go to step 6). If scan tool displays more than 0 MPH, remove VSS. Inspect speedometer pinion gear and repair or replace as necessary. Perform TEST VER-2. If speedometer pinion gear is okay, replace VSS. Perform TEST VER-2.
  6. Turn ignition off. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance at VSS connector Black/Light Blue wire. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Black/Light Blue wire. Perform TEST VER-2. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector.
  7. Inspect PCM connector. Repair connector as required. Perform TEST VER-2. If connector is okay, using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of White/Orange wire between VSS connector and PCM connector terminal No. 47.
  8. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open White/Orange wire. Perform TEST VER-2. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace PCM. Perform TEST VER-2.
