Test TC-27A - Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid Circuit (DTC 37)

  1. Using scan tool, actuate Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) solenoid. Wait 10 seconds. Using scan tool, read DTCs. If TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID CIRCUIT DTC does not return, go to next step. If TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID CIRCUIT DTC returns, go to step 4).
  2. While actuator test is still running, wiggle wiring from TCC solenoid connector to PCM. Using scan tool, read DTCs. If TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID CIRCUIT DTC returns, repair wiring harness causing DTC to reset. Perform TEST VER-2. If TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID CIRCUIT DTC does not return, go to next step.
  3. At this time, condition required to set DTC is not present. TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID DTC sets if an open or short is detected in TCC solenoid/relay or TCC solenoid circuit. Possible causes are: TCC solenoid/relay open or shorted, open TCC solenoid Dark Blue/White wire, or open or short to ground in TCC solenoid/relay Orange/Black wire. Perform TEST VER-2. Test is complete.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect TCC solenoid connector. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage of TCC solenoid connector Dark Blue/White wire.
  5. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Dark Blue/White wire. Perform TEST VER-2. If voltage is more than 10 volts, turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connector. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of Orange/Black wire between TCC solenoid connector and PCM connector terminal No. 54. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Orange/Black wire. Perform TEST VER-2. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  6. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance on PCM connector terminal No. 54 Orange/Black wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Orange/Black wire. Perform TEST VER-2. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  7. Reconnect TCC solenoid connector. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on PCM connector terminal No. 54 (Orange/Black wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, replace TCC solenoid. Perform TEST VER-2. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace PCM. Perform TEST VER-2.
