Test TC-26A - EVAP Solenoid Circuit (DTC 31)

  1. Using scan tool, erase DTCs. Using scan tool, actuate evaporative (EVAP) solenoid. Using scan tool, read DTCs. If scan tool does not display EVAP SOLENOID CIRCUIT, go to next step. If scan tool displays EVAP SOLENOID CIRCUIT, go to step 6).
  2. At this time, condition required to set DTC is not present. EVAP SOLENOID CIRCUIT DTC sets if solenoid is not in its proper state when monitored by Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Possible causes are: open or shorted EVAP solenoid Pink/Black wire, open EVAP solenoid Dark Blue wire, open or shorted EVAP solenoid, or PCM failure. Go to next step.
  3. Inspect wiring and connectors. Repair as required. Perform TEST VER-2. If wiring and connectors are okay, read DTCs using scan tool. Ensure actuator test is still running.
  4. Wiggle wiring harness from solenoid to PCM. If EVAP SOLENOID CIRCUIT DTC returns, repair wiring harness causing problem to appear. Perform TEST VER-2.
  5. If EVAP SOLENOID CIRCUIT DTC does not return when wiring harness is wiggled, see INACTIVE DTC CONDITION  . Test is complete. Perform TEST VER-2.
  6. Turn ignition off. Disconnect EVAP solenoid electrical connector. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage of EVAP solenoid connector Dark Blue/White wire.
  7. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Dark Blue/White wire. Perform TEST VER-2. If voltage is more than 10 volts, turn ignition off. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector. Go to next step.
  8. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of Pink/Black wire between PCM connector terminal No. 52 and EVAP solenoid connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Pink/Black wire. Perform TEST VER-2.
  9. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, place scan tool in ohmmeter mode. Using scan tool, check resistance of PCM connector terminal No. 52 (Pink/Black wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Pink/Black wire. Perform TEST VER-2. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, reconnect EVAP solenoid connector. Turn ignition on. Place scan tool in voltmeter mode.
  10. Using scan tool, check voltage of PCM connector terminal No. 52 (Pink/Black wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, replace EVAP solenoid. Perform TEST VER-2. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace PCM. Perform TEST VER-2.
