Test TC-25A - EGR Solenoid Circuit (DTC 32)

  1. Using scan tool, erase DTCs. Actuate EGR solenoid. Using scan tool, read DTCs. If scan tool displays EGR SOLENOID CIRCUIT, go to step 5). If scan tool does not display EGR SOLENOID CIRCUIT, go to next step.
  2. At this time, condition required to set DTC is not present. EGR SOLENOID CIRCUIT DTC sets if solenoid is not in its proper state when monitored by Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Possible causes are: open or shorted EGR solenoid Gray/Yellow wire, open EGR solenoid Dark Blue wire, or failed PCM. Go to next step.
  3. Inspect wiring and connectors. Repair as required. Perform TEST VER-2. If wiring and connectors are okay, read DTCs using scan tool. Actuator test should still be running. Wiggle wiring harness from EGR solenoid to PCM.
  4. If EGR SOLENOID CIRCUIT DTC returns while wiring harness is wiggled, repair harness causing problem to appear. Perform TEST VER-2. If EGR SOLENOID CIRCUIT DTC does not return while wiring harness is wiggled, see INACTIVE DTC CONDITION  . Test is complete. Perform TEST VER-2.
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect EGR solenoid connector. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage of EGR solenoid connector Dark Blue/White wire.
  6. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Dark Blue/White wire. Perform TEST VER-2. If voltage is more than 10 volts, turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connector. Go to next step.
  7. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of Gray/Yellow wire between PCM connector terminal No. 35 and EGR solenoid connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Gray/Yellow wire. Perform TEST VER-2. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  8. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of PCM connector terminal No. 35 (Gray/Yellow wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Gray/Yellow wire. Perform TEST VER-2. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  9. Reconnect EGR solenoid electrical connector. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on PCM connector terminal No. 35 (Gray/Yellow wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, replace EGR solenoid. Perform TEST VER-2. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace PCM. Perform TEST VER-2.
