Test TC-10A - O2S Stays Below Center (Lean) (DTC 51)

  1. Set parking brake and start engine. Using scan tool, set engine speed to 1500 RPM. Read O2S voltage. If O2S voltage is always less than 0.5 volt, go to next step. If O2S voltage is always more than 0.5 volt, go to step 4).
  2. If O2S voltage is always at zero volt, repair short to ground in O2S connector Dark Green/White wire. Perform TEST VER-2. If O2S voltage is not always at zero volts, go to next step.
  3. Check for tracking on O2S connector Dark Green/White wire and Black Light/Blue wire. Check for tracking on O2S connector Dark Green/White wire and Black wire. Check connectors for dirt and grease build-up. Repair as required. Perform TEST VER-2. If connectors are okay, a condition causing engine to run lean is indicated. Go to TEST NTC-1A.
  4. At this time, condition required to set DTC is not present. O2S STAYS BELOW CENTER (LEAN) DTC sets if O2S output voltage stays less than 0.5 volt without changing for at least 8 minutes. Possible causes are: low fuel pressure, vacuum leak, other engine sensor calibrations, ignition system failure, O2S failure or mechanical engine failure. Go to TEST NTC-1A.
