Test TC-32A - A/C Clutch Relay Circuit (DTC 33)

NOTE:

- Using scan tool, actuate A/C clutch relay. If A/C clutch relay is not clicking, go to step 5). If A/C clutch relay is clicking, condition required to set DTC is not present at this time. Go to next step.
- A/C CLUTCH RELAY CIRCUIT DTC sets if an open or short is detected in A/C clutch relay Dark Blue/Orange wire. Possible causes are: open or shorted A/C clutch relay coil windings, open or shorted A/C clutch relay Dark Blue/Orange wire, open or shorted A/C clutch Gray wire, or failed driver in PCM. Go to next step.
- Inspect all related wiring and connectors and repair as necessary. Perform TEST VER-2. If no problems are found with wiring and connectors, go to next step.
- While still actuating A/C clutch relay, wiggle wiring harness from A/C clutch relay to PCM. If relay stops clicking while wiggling wiring harness, repair wiring and connectors as necessary. Perform TEST VER-2. If relay does not stop clicking while wiggling wiring harness, see INACTIVE DTC CONDITION . Perform TEST VER-2.
- Disconnect A/C clutch relay.NOTE: A/C clutch relay is supplied voltage from radiator fan relay.
- While still actuating A/C clutch relay, put scan tool in voltmeter mode. Using scan tool, check voltage on A/C clutch relay connector Light Green wire. If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to step 13). If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
- Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance between A/C clutch relay terminals. See Figure. If resistance is more than 100 ohms, replace A/C clutch relay. Perform TEST VER-2. If resistance is less than 100 ohms, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connector. Using scan tool, check resistance of A/C clutch relay connector Dark Blue/Orange wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Dark Blue/Orange wire. Perform TEST VER-2. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of Dark Blue/Orange wire between A/C clutch relay connector and PCM connector terminal No. 34. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Dark Blue/Orange wire. Perform TEST VER-2. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace PCM. Perform TEST VER-2.
- Disconnect radiator fan relay. Put scan tool in voltmeter mode. Using scan tool, check voltage on radiator fan relay connector Gray wire. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Gray wire. Perform TEST VER-2.
- If voltage is more than 10 volts, substitute low speed radiator fan relay with known-good low speed radiator fan relay. Using scan tool, actuate A/C clutch relay. Put scan tool in voltmeter mode.
- Using scan tool, check voltage on radiator fan relay Light Green wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace original low speed radiator fan relay. Perform TEST VER-2. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open radiator fan relay Light Green wire. Perform TEST VER-2.
NOTE:
Test procedures skip from TEST TC-32A to TEST TC-36A. No test procedures have been omitted.
