Test TC-20A - Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid Circuit (DTC 37)

NOTE:

- This DTC does not apply to M/T vehicles. On A/T vehicles, erase DTCs using scan tool. Turn ignition off for 10 seconds. Turn ignition on.
- Using scan tool, actuate Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) solenoid. Using scan tool, read DTCs. If scan tool displays TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID CIRCUIT, go to step 6). If scan tool does not display TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID CIRCUIT, condition required to set DTC is not present at this time. Go to next step.
- TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID CIRCUIT DTC sets if TCC solenoid is open or shorted. Possible causes are: open or shorted TCC solenoid, open TCC solenoid Dark Blue wire, open or shorted TCC solenoid ground circuit or failed PCM. Go to next step.
- Inspect all related wiring and connectors and repair as necessary. Perform TEST VER-2. If no problems are found with wiring and connectors, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, read DTCs. TCC actuation test should still be running. Wiggle wiring harness from TCC solenoid to PCM. If TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID CIRCUIT DTC returns, repair wiring harness as necessary. Perform TEST VER-2. If TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID CIRCUIT DTC does not return, see INACTIVE DTC CONDITION . Perform TEST VER-2.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect TCC solenoid connector. Turn ignition on. Put scan tool in voltmeter mode. Using scan tool, check voltage on TCC solenoid connector Dark Blue/White wire. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Dark Blue/White wire. Perform TEST VER-2.
- If voltage is more than 10 volts, turn ignition off. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of Orange/Black wire between TCC solenoid connector and PCM connector terminal No. 54. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Orange/Black wire. Perform TEST VER-2.
- If resistance is less than 5 ohms, put scan tool in ohmmeter mode. Using scan tool, check resistance of Orange/Black wire at PCM connector terminal No. 54. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Orange/Black wire. Perform TEST VER-2.
- If resistance is more than 5 ohms, reconnect TCC solenoid connector. Turn ignition on. Put scan tool in voltmeter mode. Using scan tool, check voltage on PCM connector terminal No. 54 (Orange/Black wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, replace TCC solenoid. Perform TEST VER-2. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace PCM. Perform TEST VER-2.
