Test NS-9C - Repairing No Crank Condition

NOTE:

- If engine cranks, go to step 5). If engine does not crank, note if starter solenoid clicks when jumper wire is connected. Disconnect jumper wire. Disconnect starter relay Brown wire from starter solenoid.
- Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of Brown wire between starter relay connector and starter solenoid. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Brown wire. Perform TEST VER-1. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, reinstall starter relay.
- Check battery cables for high resistance. If voltage drop in either battery circuit is more than .2 volt, repair battery circuit for high resistance. Perform TEST VER-1. If voltage drop in each battery circuit is less than .2 volt, go to next step.
- If starter solenoid clicked when jumper wire was previously connected, repair starter for a mechanical failure. Perform TEST VER-1. If starter solenoid did not click when jumper wire was previously connected, replace starter solenoid. Perform TEST VER-1.
- On M/T vehicles, replace starter relay. Perform TEST VER-1. On A/T vehicles, put scan tool in ohmmeter mode. Using scan tool, check resistance on starter relay connector Brown/White wire.
- If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in appropriate wire. Perform TEST VER-1. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace starter relay. Perform TEST VER-1.
