Test NS-9A - Repairing No Crank Condition

- If vehicle is equipped with a manual transmission, go to TEST NS-9B. If vehicle is equipped with an automatic transmission, ensure transmission is in Park.
- Using scan tool, read Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch sense. If PNP switch senses park, go to next step. If PNP switch does not sense park, repair open PNP switch ground.
- Disconnect starter relay. Put scan tool in voltmeter mode. Using scan tool, check voltage on starter relay connector Black wire. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in appropriate wire. Perform TEST VER-1.
- If voltage is more than 10 volts, using an external voltmeter, check voltage on starter relay connector Yellow wire. Hold ignition switch in RUN position while observing voltmeter. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Yellow wire. Perform TEST VER-1.WARNING: Engine may crank in following step. Keep away from moving engine parts.
- If voltage is more than 10 volts, ensure transmission is in Park and parking brake is set. Briefly connect jumper wire between starter relay connector Brown wire and Black wire. Go to TEST NS-9C.
