Deployed Air Bag

WARNING: Vehicle interior will contain sodium hydroxide powder, a by-product of air bag deployment. Since this powder can irritate skin, eyes, nose, or throat, be sure to wear safety glasses, rubber gloves, and long-sleeved shirt during clean-up.

Take measures to avoid breathing powder produced during air bag deployment. Place a piece of tape over air bag vent hole to prevent additional powder spillage. Remove driver-side air bag module and passenger-side air bag module (if equipped). Use vacuum cleaner to remove residual powder from A/C-heater outlets and vehicle interior.
Turn the blower motor to low for a few minutes and exit the vehicle. Turn blower off. Vacuum any other powder expelled from the plenum. Vacuum interior a second time to recover all powder. Avoid kneeling or sitting on uncleaned surfaces. Dispose of deployed air bags as any other part.
