All Models Except "J" & "S/T" Series: Removal
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 16 other vehicles, including the 1995 GMC Yukon, 1995 GMC Vandura, 1995 GMC Sonoma, 1995 GMC Pickup, and 1995 GMC Jimmy. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- On "C" and "K" models, remove shift lever boot retainer screws. Slide boot assembly upward on shift lever and remove boot. To remove shift lever, push down on collar and turn counterclockwise.
- On all models, raise and support vehicle under frame. Drain fluid from transmission and transfer case, if equipped. Disconnect speedometer sensor, if equipped.
- Remove shift controls from transmission (if not previously removed). Remove parking brake lever controls and electrical harness connectors from transmission as needed. Mark drive shaft for installation reference. Remove drive shaft.
- Remove transfer case (if equipped). Disconnect exhaust pipes from exhaust manifolds as needed. Remove clutch slave cylinder and lay aside. Remove any parts for clearance as needed. Remove frame crossmember and flywheel inspection plate.
- Remove all transmission-to-clutch housing attaching bolts. Slide transmission rearward until input shaft is clear of clutch hub. Remove transmission from vehicle.
NOTE:
Support clutch release bearing and support assembly when removing transmission main drive gear from flywheel housing. This will prevent release bearing from falling out of flywheel housing.
