"S/T" Series (Pickup): Removal

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 16 other vehicles, including the 1995 GMC Yukon, 1995 GMC Vandura, 1995 GMC Sonoma, 1995 GMC Pickup, and 1995 GMC Jimmy. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove shift lever boot and slide upward on shift lever. Shift transmission into Neutral (BW T5) or into 3rd or 4th gear (NV 1500 and NV 3500) and remove shift lever bolts at transmission. Remove shift lever.
  2. Remove parking brake cable for clearance. Raise vehicle and mark drive shaft for installation reference. Remove drive shaft. Remove skid plate, if equipped.
  3. Remove transfer case, if equipped. Disconnect vehicle speed sensor and wiring harnesses as needed. On 4.3L models, purge fuel pressure and disconnect fuel lines at manifold. On all models, disconnect exhaust pipes at manifolds.
  4. Remove left and right transfer case braces. Remove slave cylinder from transmission. Support transmission and remove catalytic converter hanger and support braces. Remove necessary crossmembers.
  5. Remove transmission-to-engine bolts. On 4.3L models, rotate transmission counterclockwise before pulling over clutch splines. On all models, remove transmission.
NOTE: DO NOT  allow transmission to hang from clutch.
