"S" & "T" Series: Removal
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 32 other vehicles, including the 1990 Pontiac Trans Sport, 1990 Oldsmobile Silhouette, 1990 GMC Vandura Special, 1990 GMC Vandura, and 1990 GMC Value Van. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove shift lever boot screws and slide boot upward on shift lever. Shift transmission into Neutral and remove shift lever bolts at transmission. Remove shift lever.
- Raise vehicle and mark drive shaft for reassembly reference. Remove drive shaft. Disconnect parking brake lever and controls.
- Remove transfer case (if equipped). See appropriate TRANSFER CASE removal procedures. Disconnect exhaust pipe at manifold. Disconnect speedometer cable and electrical connectors at transmission.
- Remove slave cylinder from transmission. Support transmission and remove catalytic converter hanger and support braces. Remove necessary crossmembers. Remove transmission-to-engine bolts on all models. Pull transmission straight back on clutch hub splines. Remove transmission.
NOTE:
DO NOT
let transmission hang from clutch. Support clutch release bearing when removing transmission from flywheel housing. This will prevent release bearing from falling out of flywheel housing.
