Locking Hub Overhaul: Disassembly

- Remove retaining ring and small spacer from inboard end of hub sleeve. Rotate drag sleeve and detent with brake band until components release from locking unit. See Figure
.CAUTION: DO NOT remove brake band from drag sleeve and detent, as spring tension of brake band will be altered.
- Carefully remove shield to prevent damage during removal. Remove snap ring from groove in outer clutch housing. Place outer clutch housing on bench, with inner cage end of clutch housing down.
- Remove retaining ring, return spring, spring retainers and spring support washer. Place opposite end of outer clutch housing on a socket with outside diameter of approximately 1 7/16".
- Press downward on outer clutch housing to expose White plastic tab of outer cage. Remove inner cage by prying plastic tab of outer cage from opening in inner cage. DO NOT use excessive force or plastic tab will be damaged.
- Remove outer cage. Pry outer legs on cam follower from flat areas of clutch gear to release hub sleeve and conical spring. Remove outer clutch housing. Remove "C" type retaining ring from hub sleeve.
