Check Gages Light
This optional equipment warning light illuminates when engine coolant temperature is too high or when engine oil pressure is too low. Warning signals from engine coolant temperature and/or oil pressure switches are monitored by CHECK GAGES light driver. Light driver is an integral part of coolant temperature gauge circuit board.
Warning light switches are separate units from gauge sending units. Coolant temperature warning system uses engine-mounted temperature switch. When coolant overheats, switch closes, and CHECK GAGES warning light illuminates. Coolant switch closing temperature is 257°F (125°C).
Oil pressure warning system uses an oil pressure switch. When oil pressure drops below 4 psi (.28 kg/cm2 ), switch closes, activating CHECK GAGES warning light on instrument cluster. On vehicles equipped with gauges, oil pressure warning switch is mounted next to oil pressure sending unit. Warning switch is mounted in place of sending unit on vehicles not equipped with gauges.
