Drum Brake Shoes - Leading/Trailing Design: Removal

1. Raise vehicle and support with safety stands. Remove wheel assembly and brake drum. It may be necessary to back off parking brake adjustment before removing drum. Remove actuator spring and adjuster actuator. Remove hold-down spring assemblies and pins. Remove lower return spring.
2. Remove the shoe assemblies with the upper return and adjuster screw assembly. Use care not to damage wheel cylinder boots. Disconnect the upper return spring and adjusting screw assembly from the shoes.
3. Remove retaining ring, pin, spring washer and parking brake lever from shoes. Inspect brake components for wear or fatigue and replace as necessary.
