Drum Brake Shoes - Leading/Trailing Design: Installation

Install park brake lever on shoe with spring washer, pin and retaining ring. Install adjuster pin in the shoe with pin projecting out, from face of shoe towards drum, 0.268-0.276 in. (6.8-7.0 mm). Using white lithium grease, lubricate adjuster threads, inside diameter of adjuster socket and socket face.
Position shoes on bench relative to installed position on vehicle. Shoe with adjuster actuator should be installed to the rear of vehicle. Install upper return spring to brake shoes. Install adjuster screw assembly with adjuster engaging the adjuster actuator and park brake lever.
Lubricate backing plate contact patches with whit lithium grease. Install shoe assemblies over axle against backing plate. Overlap bottom of shoes to allow top of shoes to clear wheel cylinder. Install lower return spring to shoes and spread shoes to clear anchor plate.
Install hold down pins, springs and retainers. Install actuator spring ensuring that free end of adjuster actuator engages notch of the adjuster nut. Install parking brake cable to parking brake lever. Adjust parking brake and install wheel assembly.
