Rear Shackle Bushing: Installation
- Install shackle bushing using the 3/8" Nut (J 21474-18), the Control Arm Bushing Installer (J 21474-13), the 3/8" Bolt (J 21474-19), and the Receiver (J 21474-5). See Fig 1 . See SPECIAL TOOLS .
- Assemble tools as shown and pull the bushing into the frame rail until the flanged portion of the bushing is flush with the rail.
- Stake the shackle bushing inner flange.
- Raise axle into position.
- Install frame to shackle bolt (7), washers (8), and nut (9); DO NOT tighten. See Figure or Figure .
- Repeat all previous steps for the other bushings.NOTE: Support the axle in such a way that there is a distance of 170 mm +/- 6 mm (6.7 inch +/- 0.24 inch) for left hand drive vehicles or 148 mm +/- 6 mm (5.8 inch +/- 0.24 inch) for right hand drive vehicles, between the axle tube and the bumper bracket metal surfaces.
- Tighten the rear shackle nuts (9 and 11) to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the fuel tank.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Lower the vehicle.
