"P" Series With Transmission-Mounted Parking Brake

  1. Raise and support rear of vehicle. For preferred method of adjustment, perform steps 2) and 3). For alternate method of adjustment, perform step 4).
  2. Remove drive shaft. Install parking brake drum over first rivet section of brake shoes. Insert.010" (.25 mm) shims between both shoes and drum, spaced 140-180 degrees apart.
  3. Rotate adjuster screw until no clearance exists. Remove shims. Install drum and drive shaft. Drum should rotate freely with light drag.
  4. Rotate adjuster screw through hole in backing plate until brake drum just locks up. Back off adjuster screw until drum spins freely with light drag. Lower vehicle.
