Except "C" & "K" Series With Leading/Trailing Brakes

- Ensure parking brake is released. Raise and support vehicle. Knock out lanced area in backing plate with a punch (if not already removed) and remove from brake assembly.
- Working through hole in backing plate, rotate adjusting screw until brake shoes expand and brake drums can just be turned by hand. Ensure drag is equal at both wheels. Back off adjusting screw 24 notches (Astro, Safari and "S" & "T" Series) or 33 notches (all others) at each wheel.
- If heavy drag is present after adjusting screw is backed off 12 notches (Astro, Safari and "S" & "T" Series) or 15 notches (all others), check parking brake adjustment. See PARKING BRAKE under ADJUSTMENTS . To complete procedure, install plug in backing plate. Check parking brake adjustment.
