Removal & Installation: Spindle: Removal

  1. Raise and support vehicle. Remove wheel and tire assembly. Detach automatic or manual locking hub components. Remove hub/rotor assembly. Detach spindle retaining bolts.
  2. Remove spindle and thrust washer by tapping end of spindle lightly with soft-faced hammer. See Figure , VIEW A. Inspect thrust washer and replace if excessive wear has occurred. With spindle removed from vehicle, install assembly in vise (on high step diameter).
  3. Ensure machined surface of spindle will not be damaged by vise jaws. Remove grease seals and discard. Remove needle roller bearing and inspect for excessive wear or damage.
