Automatic & Manual Locking Hub & Brake Rotor Assembly: Installation
- If bearing races were removed, use Driver Handle (J-8092) and Front Axle Bearing Race Installer (J-6368) to installer outer wheel bearing race into hub. Install inner race using driver handle and Front Axle Bearing Race Installer (J-23448).
- Pack wheel bearings with lithium grease and install in hub. Position hub/rotor assembly onto spindle. Install adjusting nut and adjust wheel bearings. See ADJUSTMENTS & CHECKING .
- After bearing adjustment, position drag sleeve washer so that tang on washer I.D. fits in keyway of axle shaft and pin on adjusting nut fits through one hole in washer. See Figure . Install and tighten outer lock nut. Align cut-outs in drag sleeve with tabs on drag sleeve washer as outer clutch housing splines are assembled into splines of hub.
- Loosen cover screws 3 or 4 turns. Push in on these screws to allow retaining ring to expand in hub groove as seal bridge is forced from position over retaining ring when tang of seal bridge contacts wheel hub. Tighten cover screws.
- If bearing races were removed, use Driver Handle (J-8092) and Front Axle Bearing Race Installer (J-6368) to installer outer wheel bearing race into hub. Install inner race using driver handle and Front Axle Bearing Race Installer (J-23448). Pack wheel bearings with lithium grease and install in hub. Position hub/rotor assembly onto spindle.
- Install adjusting nut and adjust wheel bearings. See ADJUSTMENTS & CHECKING . After wheel bearing adjustment, install manual locking hub assembly by reversing removal procedure. Use ATF or a light coat of wheel bearing grease in assembling manual hub assembly.
