Lower Ball Joint
- Lower ball joints are a loose fit when not connected to steering knuckle. Wear may be checked without ball stud disassembly. To check lower ball joint, first lift vehicle.
- Support weight of control arms at wheel and hub with jack stand. Measure distance between top of ball joint stud and tip of lower grease fitting. See Fig 1 . Move support to control arm and allow wheel and hub to hang free.
- Remeasure distance. If difference exceeds 3/32" (2.38 mm), replace ball joint. Inspect lower ball joint rubber grease seal for cuts or tears. Replace ball joint if damage is found.
