Removal ("C", "K", "S" & "T" Models")

  1. Remove steering wheel. Remove column to instrument panel trim cover. Compress lock plate with compressor tool (J-23653). See Fig 1 .

  2. Pry snap ring out of groove and discard. Lift off lock plate, directional signal canceling cam, upper bearing preload spring and thrust washer from end of shaft.
  3. Remove directional signal warning lever. Push in hazard warning knob and unscrew the knob. Remove the 3 switch mounting screws. On standard columns, pull the switch connector out of the bracket on the column.
  4. Pull the switch straight up, guiding the wiring harness through the column housing and protector. Remove the wire protector by pulling downward out of column with pliers using tab provided.
  5. On tilt columns, the steering must be in the "LOW" position to remove the directional signal switch. Removal procedure is the same as for standard column.
