HUD Displays
HUD Displays
Advanced Driver Assist System
The advanced driver assist system display is located in the lower center portion of the HUD just above the speedometer display area and the LH and RH sides of the display.
The HUD provides the advanced driver assist display to indicate the following:
- cruise control or ACC status
- distance indication
- gap setting display (part of the ACC system)
- lane centering aid display
- lane keeping system display
- lead vehicle detected (part of the ACC system)
- stop and go (part of the ACC system) display
BLIS
The HUD provides BLIS indicators to warn the driver that a vehicle has entered the BLIS monitored zones. The BLIS indication is displayed in the LH and RH sides of the HUD.
Clock
The HUD provides a clock display that is controlled by a global vehicle clock strategy in the BCM. The clock is displayed in lower RH corner of the HUD.
Cruise Control/ACC And Stop And Go
The normal cruise control display provides the cruise control RTT indicator and the set speed display shown beside it.
The ACC display provides a gap setting display indicating the selected follow distance between the vehicle and lead vehicle, and a lead vehicle detected indicator.
The stop and go feature (part of the ACC) provides vehicle braking, stopping and accelerating based on the status of the vehicle in front. The display provides a text message to indicate the vehicle is stopped, press button to resume or feature is canceled.
Digital Speedometer
The HUD provides a digital speed display to indicate vehicle speed. The location of the digital speedometer depends on the HUD display mode layout. When the digital speedometer is selected on in the HUD, the speedometer in the IPC only shows a minimal detail. The HUD module uses the vehicle speed display and metric display messages from the IPC to control the display.
Distance Indication
The advanced driver assist system display provides a distance indication as part of the ACC displays to indicate the distance to the vehicle in front and visually provide warning when the vehicle is too close. The graphical distance display bars on each side of the HUD and the lead vehicle detected indicator illuminate and change colors. As the vehicle approaches a distance requiring an alert, the display fill turns from amber to red.
DTE - Low Fuel
The HUD provides a DTE display in the lower RH corner of the HUD. The DTE /low fuel displays when the fuel level is below 40 km (25 miles) to empty. The HUD module uses the fuel range display and fuel level warning messages from the IPC to control the display.
Infotainment-Navigation And Phone
The HUD provides navigation and phone information. The HUD module receives the navigation messaged data from the APIM to display the navigation information and receives steering wheel switch data from the SCCM to control the displays.
The phone call information displays in the upper information bar. The navigation displays in the upper information bar and the center of the HUD for near navigation or in the lower LH corner for far navigation. Far navigation displays the distance to the selected destination, and near navigation displays the turn-by-turn directions. The navigation selections are located in the center touchscreen display menus, or voice activated. Navigation is not displayed when in HUD offroad layout.
For additional navigation and phone information, Refer to: Information and Entertainment System - System Operation and Component Description .
Lane Centering Aid
The HUD provides a display with right and left lane markers on each side of the HUD, and a steering wheel indicator in the center of the display. The lane markings will change colors from blue to amber to red on each side of the HUD to alert the driver to remain within the center of the drive lane. A message will pop up in the upper information bar to keep hands on steering wheel if the system detects the driver's hands are removed from the steering wheel.
If the hands free option is selected (BlueCruise), the steering wheel indicator will change colors from gray (inactive), to green (active) to blue (hands free available) to indicate system status.
The lane centering aid is part of the advanced driver assist system.
Lane Keeping System
The lane keeping system combines the lane keeping alert and lane keeping assist systems. The lane keeping alert system alerts the driver of unintentional drifting outside of the lane and the lane keeping assist system corrects the vehicle steering to keep the vehicle in the center of the lane. The HUD provides a lane keeping display with right and left lane markers on each side of the HUD. The lane markers change color based on the system status with regard to vehicle position within the lane and any required intervention to keep the vehicle in the center of the lane. The lane keeping system is part of the advanced driver assist system. For additional information on the lane keeping system operation, Refer to: LANE KEEPING SYSTEM .
Off Road Display
The off road views include the following indications:
- Four wheel drive (2H, 4L, 4H, 4A)
- Pitch and roll angle
- Rear locking differential
- Trail turn assist
When 4WD is selected, an indicator displays in the lower LH corner to indicate 4H, 4L or 4A.
When an off road drive mode is selected, the display uses a graphic in the center and the RH side of the HUD to indicate the vehicle pitch, vehicle roll and front wheel turning angle when the vehicle is in an off road mode or any driving condition.
The rear locking differential indicator illuminates in the lower LH side of the HUD when the rear differential is in the locked position.
The trail turn assist indicator displays in the lower LH side of the HUD, and indicates the direction of the vehicle's turn, and which rear wheel is locked. The trail turn assist system locks the rear wheel in order to allow for a tighter turning radius.
Outside Air Temperature
The HUD provides an outside air temperature display in the lower LH corner of the display. The Ambient Air Temperature (AAT) sensor is hardwired to the PCM through separate input and return circuits. The PCM provides a reference voltage to the Ambient Air Temperature (AAT) sensor and monitors the change in voltage resulting from changes in resistance as determined by outside air temperature.
The PCM is programmed to update the messaged outside temperature data at different rates depending on several criteria (current engine temperature, engine off time and vehicle speed) to prevent false temperature displays due to a condition known as heat soaking. Heat soaking is where the outside air temperature is hotter in the location of the Ambient Air Temperature (AAT) sensor than the actual outside air temperature.
The PCM sends the ambient air temperature data to the HVAC module. The HVAC module sends the filtered ambient air temperatue data to the HUD module.
Power Shift - Raptor
The HUD provides the power shift display (part of the tachometer display) when Baja drive mode is selected (Raptor only). The shift point setting is located in the center of the tachometer display.
Speed Sign Recognition
The HUD provides a speed sign display based on the last recognized speed limit sign on the current route the vehicle is traveling. The HUD uses speed sign recognition data provided by the IPMA.
Tachometer
The HUD provides a tachometer display at the bottom of the display area that indicates the current engine speed during normal, towing or off road driving conditions. The tachometer displays as a full size or a minimized linear gauge.
Towing
The HUD provides a trailer brake gain display in the upper message display area when the vehicle is in towing mode. The display indicates the current brake output of the trailer brakes.
Trail Control
The HUD provdes a trail control indicator in the same location as the cruise control/adaptive cruise control indicator with the set speed display. Trail control allows the vehicle to travel at a continuous low speed when in an off road mode.
Transmission Gear Indication
The HUD provides the transmission gear indication display in the lower LH corner of the HUD. It indicates D and the drive gear (1-10) or M and the SelectShift gear position (1-10), as selected by the driver.
Turn Signal (LH / RH And Hazard)
The LH, RH turn and hazard indication displayed in the HUD is redundant to the LH, RH turn and hazard indication displayed in the IPC. The HUD displays the LH, RH turn and hazard indication in the upper LH and RH sides of the HUD.
