Removal And Installation: Turbocharger: Installation

  1. NOTE: This step is only needed if the component was removed.

    Install the turbocharger stud bolts.

    Torque

    : 4.1 Nm

  2. NOTE: This step is only needed if the component was removed.
    NOTE: Make sure that a new component is installed.

    Component(s) must be lubricated with clean engine coolant.Install and lubricate the turbocharger coolant supply tube seal. Refer to: SPECIFICATIONS .

  3. NOTE: This step is only needed if the component was removed.

    Install the turbocharger coolant supply tube.

  4. NOTE: This step is only needed if the component was removed.
    NOTE: Make sure that a new component is installed.

    Component(s) must be lubricated with clean engine coolant.Install and lubricate the turbocharger coolant return tube seals. Refer to: SPECIFICATIONS .

  5. NOTE: This step is only needed if the component was removed.
    NOTE: The component must be fully seated prior to fastener rundown.

    Install the turbocharger coolant return tube and tighten the bolt.

    Torque

    : 10 Nm

  6. NOTE: Make sure that new components are installed.

    Component(s) must be lubricated with clean engine oil.Lubricate the turbocharger oil supply tube O-ring seals. Refer to: Specifications .

  7. NOTE: The component must be fully seated prior to fastener rundown.

    Install the turbocharger oil supply tube and tighten the bolt.

    Torque

    : 10 Nm

    Install the turbocharger elbow adapter and tighten the nuts.

    NOTE: Make sure that new stud bolts are installed.

    Install the turbocharger mounting studs.

    Torque

    : 10 Nm

    Install the turbocharger gasket.

  11. NOTE: Only tighten the nuts finger tight at this stage.

    Install the turbocharger and tighten the nuts.

    Install the turbocharger heat shield, then tighten the nuts and the bolt.

  13. NOTE: The component must be installed by hand before final tightening.

    Tighten the nuts and the bolts in the given sequence.

    Torque

    : Nuts: Stage 1: 23 Nm Stage 2: 23 Nm Bolt: 10 Nm

  14. NOTE: The component must be fully seated prior to fastener rundown.

    Install the turbocharger coolant return tube and tighten the bolt.

    Torque

    : 10 Nm

    Install the turbocharger oil supply tube and tighten the bolt.

    Torque

    : 10 Nm

    Install the outer half of the turbocharger coolant supply tube and tighten the bolt.

  20. Install the catalytic converter and the clamp.

  21. Install the catalytic converter lower bracket and tighten the bolts.

    Torque

    : 48 Nm

  22. Tighten the bolt.

    Torque

    : 18 Nm

  23. Install the power transfer unit. Refer to: Power Transfer Unit - Vehicles With: Power Transfer Unit Oil-to-Coolant Cooler . Refer to: Power Transfer Unit - Vehicles Without: Power Transfer Unit Oil-to-Coolant Cooler .

    LHD FWD/RHD FWD 

  24. Install the catalytic converter. Refer to: Catalytic Converter .
  25. Install the front RH half shaft. Refer to: Front Halfshaft RH - 1.5L EcoBoost (129kW/175PS) (CR) .

    All vehicles 

  26. Connect the turbocharger wastegate electrical connector.

  27. Install the CAC inlet pipe. Refer to: Charge Air Cooler (CAC) Intake Pipe .
  28. Install the air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe .
  29. Check and top off the engine oil as needed. Refer to: Specifications .
  30. Fill and bleed the cooling system. Refer to: Engine Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding .
  31. If a new turbocharger is installed, road test the vehicle.
