NOTE: Motorcraft® Electric A/C Compressor Oil only must be used as a refrigerant system lubricant for High Voltage Battery Electric vehicles. Addition of any oil other than Motorcraft® Electric A/C Compressor Oil to the High Voltage Battery Electric vehicle refrigerant system will damage the electric A/C compressor and contaminate the refrigerant system. For a specific Motorcraft® Electric A/C Compressor Oil, Refer to specifications.
NOTE: Do not use the R-1234yf Refrigerant Management Machine built-in oil injection system to inject Motorcraft® Electric A/C Compressor Oil to the refrigerant system on High Voltage Battery Electric vehicles equipped with an electric A/C compressor if it has been previously used to inject PAG oil. For High Voltage Battery Electric vehicles, use only clean manual injection tools. Injection of Motorcraft® Electric A/C Compressor Oil into a High Voltage Battery Electric vehicle with equipment previously used with PAG oil will contaminate and damage the High Voltage Battery Electric A/C system. For a specific Motorcraft® Electric A/C Compressor Oil, Refer to specifications.
NOTE: During normal A/C operation, oil is circulated through the system with the refrigerant, and a small amount is retained in each component. If certain components of the system are removed, some of the refrigerant oil will go with the component. To maintain the original total oil charge, it is necessary to compensate for the oil lost by adding oil to the system with the new part.
NOTE: New compressors come fully charged with Motorcraft® Electric A/C Compressor Oil. The old compressor is only partially charged because some of the oil is elsewhere in the A/C system. For a specific Motorcraft® Electric A/C Compressor Oil, Refer to specifications.
    1. Visually check the A/C compressors old and new.

      Configuration 

      All vehicles 

      NOTE: A new service refrigerant compressors come charged with Motorcraft® Electric A/C Compressor Oil for the complete refrigerant system. The old compressor is only partially charged because some of the oil is elsewhere in the refrigerant system. For a specific Motorcraft® Electric A/C Compressor Oil, Refer to specifications.
    2. If a new service refrigerant compressor is installed, no additional refrigerant oil needs to be added to the system, because the new refrigerant compressor comes with a full oil system amount. Flush or replace components within the system according to the chart provided below.

      All vehicles 

    3. If the existing refrigerant compressor is being used, some of the refrigerant system components need to be flushed (not all components can be flushed) you must add oil to the system to match the system specification stated in the chart below.

      Activation 

    4. NOTE: An A/C refrigerant analyzer must be used before the recovery of any vehicle's A/C refrigerant. Failure to do so puts the shop's bulk refrigerant at risk of contamination. If the vehicle's A/C refrigerant is contaminated, refer the customer to the service facility that carried out the last A/C service. If the customer wishes to pay the additional cost, use the A/C recovery equipment that is designated for recovering contaminated A/C refrigerant. Dispose of all contaminated A/C refrigerant as hazardous waste. For all equipment, follow the manufacturer's instructions.
      NOTE: Motorcraft® Electric A/C Compressor Oil only must be used as a refrigerant system lubricant. Addition of any oil other than Motorcraft® Electric A/C Compressor Oil to the refrigerant system will damage the A/C compressor and contaminate the refrigerant system.

      NOTE: Use Refrigerant Identification Equipment that conforms to SAE J1771 standard for R-134a or SAE J2912 standard identifies R-134a and R-1234yf.

      Follow the instructions included with Refrigerant Identification Equipment to obtain the sample for testing. For the correct procedure. Refer to: Refrigerant Identification Testing .

    5. NOTE: For R1234yf the A/C Refrigerant Analyzer is equipped in the A/C machine. For R134a refrigerant the analyzer is a separate tool. For the A/C Refrigerant Analyzer. See A/C System Recovery, Evacuation and Charging Service Tools.

      For access to the R1234yf refrigerant A/C Analyzer part of the A/C Management or the R134a refrigerant analyzer special tool. Refer to: Air Conditioning (A/C) System Recovery, Evacuation and Charging - 2.5L Duratec - Hybrid (121kW/164PS) (BG) .

    6. NOTE: Make sure the equipment is clean and free of foreign material.
      NOTE: During normal A/C operation, oil is circulated through the system with the refrigerant, and a small amount is retained in each component. If certain components of the system are removed, some of the Motorcraft® Electric A/C Compressor Oil stays inside the component. To maintain the original total oil charge, it is necessary to compensate for the oil lost by adding oil to the system with the new part.

      Refer to the chart below for refrigerant oil adding amounts and methods of installation.

      Refrigerant Oil Adding (When new components are installed) 

      Procedure Motorcraft® Electric A/C Compressor Oil (Yml) Method of Adding
      After installing the A/C Compressor. Service compressor contains full system charge of oil. Flush the existing system to remove any oil that has remained in the system. Install a new desiccant bag in the receiver dryer. No oil needs to be added
      After installing the receiver/drier. 2 fl oz (60 ml) plus the amount collected during refrigerant recovery. Inject to low-side service port during system charging.
      After installing the receiver/drier element. 1 fl oz (30 ml) plus the amount collected during refrigerant recovery. Inject to low-side service port during system charging.
      After installing the condenser core. 1.5 fl oz (45 ml) plus the amount collected during refrigerant recovery. Add directly to inlet port or inject to low-side service port during system charging.
      After installing the evaporator core. 2 fl oz (60 ml) plus the amount collected during refrigerant recovery. Add directly to inlet port or inject to low-side service port during system charging.
      After installing a high voltage battery coolant cooler (Chiller). .5 fl oz (15 ml) plus the amount collected during refrigerant recovery. Inject to low-side service port during system charging.
      After installing/reassembling the thermostatic expansion valve. Amount collected during refrigerant recovery. Inject to low-side service port during system charging.
      After installing a refrigerant Hose/Line. 2 fl oz (60 ml) plus the amount collected during refrigerant recovery (1). Inject to low-side service port during system charging.
      After an O-ring Leak Repair. 1 fl oz (30 ml) plus the amount collected during refrigerant recovery (2). Inject to low-side service port during system charging.
      After a service port leak repair. Amount collected during refrigerant recovery. Inject to low-side service port during system charging.
      (1) If an excessive amount of Motorcraft® Electric A/C Compressor Oil is lost due to a hose rupture/separation or other damage, the total system Motorcraft® Electric A/C Compressor Oil capacity must be added. Also, it is necessary to replace the receiver/drier. For a specific Motorcraft® Electric A/C Compressor Oil, Refer to: SPECIFICATIONS
      .
      (2) The amount specified may be used for one or multiple O-ring leak repairs. Do not multiply the Motorcraft® Electric A/C Compressor Oil amount by the number of O-ring leaks being repaired. For a specific Motorcraft® Electric A/C Compressor Oil, Refer to: SPECIFICATIONS .

      Use the General Equipment: Air Conditioning Service Unit

      Oil Injection Using a Lubricant Injector 

    7. NOTE: Fluorescent refrigerant system dye is added to the refrigerant system at the factory to assist in refrigerant system leak diagnosis using a Rotunda-approved UV black light. It is not necessary to add additional dye to the refrigerant system before diagnosing leaks, even if a significant amount of refrigerant has been removed from the system. Replacement suction accumulators and receiver/driers are shipped with a fluorescent dye wafer included in the desiccant bag which dissolves after approximately 30 minutes of continuous A/C operation. It is not necessary to add dye after flushing the refrigerant system because a new suction accumulator or receiver/drier is installed as part of the flushing procedure. Replace hose/accumulator, receiver/drier or receiver/drier element.

      Evacuate the refrigerant system. Refer to: Air Conditioning (A/C) System Recovery, Evacuation and Charging - 2.5L Duratec - Hybrid (121kW/164PS) (BG) .

    8. Assemble the lubricant injector and the correct adapters to match the amount of refrigerant compressor oil to be injected.
    9. Verify that all the valves on the lubricant injector are closed.
    1. Fill the lubricant injector with the correct amount of clean, new Motorcraft® Electric A/C Compressor Oil.
    2. Install the lubricant injector between the low-side service gauge port valve and the refrigerant service station or manifold gauge set.
    3. Open all valves and charge the refrigerant system. Refer to: Air Conditioning (A/C) System Recovery, Evacuation and Charging - 2.5L Duratec - Hybrid (121kW/164PS) (BG) .
