  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    The PCM uses internal drivers that control the solenoid low sides to provide commanded current. These internal drivers communicate with the PCM internally.

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions 

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
    PCM P1636:00 Inductive Signature Chip Communication Error: No Sub Type Information The PCM uses internal drivers that control the solenoid low sides to provide commanded current. These internal drivers communicate with the PCM. If communication is lost with the solenoid drivers the DTC P1636 sets.

    Possible Causes 

    • Internal PCM component failure

  2. AB1 CHECK FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

    • Ignition ON.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the DTC for the PCM.

    • Wait 10 seconds.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, carry out the PCM self-test.

    Is DTC P1636 present in the PCM ' 

    Yes
