Symptom Chart
Torque Converter Clutch
For torque converter clutch operation, REFER to: Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) .
| Symptom | Possible Causes | Action |
|---|---|---|
| TCC does not apply | Solenoid filter blocked to the TCC solenoid | INSTALL a new TCC solenoid. REFER to: SOLENOID |
| TCC solenoid mechanically stuck off | INSTALL a new TCC solenoid. REFER to: SOLENOID | |
| TCC regulator valve stuck off | DISASSEMBLE, CLEAN and INSPECT the TCC regulator valve. If the bore or valve is damaged or if the spring is damaged or missing, INSTALL a new main control valve body. REFER to: MAIN CONTROL VALVE BODY . | |
| Pump stator bushing and/or input shaft worn | REMOVE, CLEAN and INSPECT the pump assembly, the input shaft and the torque converter. If the pump stator bushing and/or the input shaft are worn, INSTALL a new pump assembly, input shaft and torque converter. REFER to: TRANSMISSION | |
| TCC APPLY hydraulic circuit blocked or leaking | DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the transmission, main control and pump assembly passages for debris/blockage. CLEAN as necessary. INSPECT the TCC hydraulic circuits for leaks. REFER to: MAIN CONTROL VALVE BODY . REFER to: TRANSMISSION . REFER to: Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) . | |
| TCC friction material worn or damaged. | INSTALL a new torque converter. REFER to: TRANSMISSION | |
| TCC always applied/stalls vehicle | TCC solenoid mechanically stuck on | INSTALL a new TCC solenoid. REFER to: SOLENOID . |
| TCC regulator valve stuck on | DISASSEMBLE, CLEAN and INSPECT the TCC regulator valve. If the bore or valve is damaged or if the spring is damaged or missing, INSTALL a new main control valve body. REFER to: MAIN CONTROL VALVE BODY . | |
| TCC RELEASE hydraulic circuit blocked or leaking | DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the transmission, main control and pump assembly passages for debris/blockage. CLEAN as necessary. INSPECT the TCC hydraulic circuits for leaks. REFER to: MAIN CONTROL VALVE BODY . REFER to: TRANSMISSION . REFER to: Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) . | |
| TCC welded or damaged. | INSTALL a new torque converter. REFER to: TRANSMISSION . | |
| TCC cycles, shudders or chatters | Incorrect Transmission Strategy programmed into the PCM / TCM | PERFORM transmission strategy download and the adaptive learning drive cycle. REFER to: TRANSMISSION STRATEGY DOWNLOAD . REFER to: ADAPTIVE LEARNING DRIVE CYCLE . |
| TCC solenoid filter or seal damaged at TCC solenoid | INSTALL a new TCC solenoid. REFER to: SOLENOID . | |
| TCC solenoid mechanically sticking | INSTALL a new TCC solenoid. REFER to: SOLENOID . | |
| TCC regulator valve, springs, clips loose, stuck, binding, missing, misassembled | DISASSEMBLE, CLEAN and INSPECT the TCC regulator valve. If the bore or valve is damaged or if the spring is damaged or missing, INSTALL a new main control valve body. REFER to: MAIN CONTROL VALVE BODY . | |
| TCC RELEASE/TCC APPLY hydraulic circuit blocked or leaking | DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the transmission, main control and pump assembly for debris/blockage. CLEAN as necessary. INSPECT the TCC hydraulic circuits for leaks. REFER to: MAIN CONTROL VALVE BODY . REFER to: TRANSMISSION . REFER to: Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) . | |
| TCC cycling/shudder/chatter | VERIFY shudder using a scan tool to compare and record TSS and engine RPM during TCC lock up. Use the recording to verify the amount of shudder. VERIFY the TCC is causing the concern. ATTEMPT to duplicate event while commanding the PID TCC_OSC OFF. If the concern cannot be duplicated while the TCC is commanded off the TCC may be worn or damaged. INSTALL a new torque converter. REFER to: TRANSMISSION . |
