Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) System Monitor
The PCV system consists of a modified PCV system design. The PCV system is designed to prevent accidental disconnection. High retention force moulded plastic lines are used for the engine valve cover to the intake manifold and left-hand turbocharger intake pipe. The diameter of the PCV lines and the corresponding connection points have been increased so that disconnection at any point may cause the engine to stall. In the event that the engine does not stall when a line is disconnected, it will create a large vacuum leak that causes the engine to run lean at idle. The lean condition triggers the MIL and stores a lean bank 1 or bank 2 DTC.
The PCV monitor sets a DTC if the PCV vacuum hose is disconnected or if a large air leak between the throttle body and the intake valves is present. An idle speed symptom may be present when the DTC is set.
The PCV pressure sensor will also detect if the intake hose has become detached from either of the turbochargers. The disconnection of an intake hose would allow the discharge of crankcase vapour into the atmosphere while the engine was under boost conditions. The crankcase pressure is monitored during engine cranking by the pressure sensor and the results compared to the changes in pressure while driving with higher intake airflow.
