Engine - LHD RWD

Wooden Block
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: JACKING AND LIFTING - 3.5L DURATEC (202KW 275PS) 3.5L ECOBOOST (235KW 320PS)
  2. Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
  3. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to: BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT - VEHICLES WITH: SINGLE BATTERY . Refer to: BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT - VEHICLES WITH: DUAL BATTERIES
  4. Remove the following items:

    1. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe .
    2. Remove the A/C compressor belt. Refer to: Air Conditioning (A/C) Compressor Belt - Vehicles With: Single Generator . Refer to: Air Conditioning (A/C) Compressor Belt - Vehicles With: Dual Generators .

  5. If equipped with block heater, detach block heater wiring harness retainers.

  6. If equipped with block heater, detach block heater wiring harness retainers and position wiring harness on engine.

    • Follow directions to release the quick release coupling type 5. Disconnect the brake vacuum hose from the upper intake manifold. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING

    • Remove the bolt and position the brake vacuum tubes aside.

  7. Remove the following items:

    1. Remove EVAP purge valve. Refer to: Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Valve .
    2. Remove the cooling module. Refer to: Cooling Module .
    3. Remove the A/C compressor. Refer to: Air Conditioning (A/C) Compressor - 3.5L Duratec (202kW/275PS) .
    4. Remove the LH headlight. Refer to: Headlamp Assembly .

  8. Disconnect the PCM electrical connector, main engine harness connector and wiring harness retainer.

  9. Follow directions to release the quick release coupling type 10. Disconnect the quick release coupling and position the fuel supply tube aside. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING

    • Release the clamps and remove the upper and lower coolant hoses.

    • Release the clamps and position the coolant hoses aside.

  10. Disconnect the coolant hose quick release coupling from the coolant pump.

  11. Disconnect the coolant hoses quick release couplings from the EGR valve.

  12. Disconnect the heater hose quick release coupling.

  13. Remove the front wheels and tires. Refer to: Wheel and Tire .
    • Remove the oil pan drain plug and drain the engine oil.Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment

    • Install the oil drain plug.

      Torque: 26 Nm

  14. Remove and discard the engine oil filter.Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment

  15. Detach the ground wire retainers and position aside.

  16. If equipped with dual generators, remove the secondary generator. Refer to: Generator - 3.5L Duratec (202kW/275PS) .
  17. If equipped with dual generators, remove the bolts, stud bolt and the generator bracket.

  18. Remove the starter motor. Refer to: Starter Motor .
  19. Disconnect the LH HO2S, catalyst monitor sensor and the wiring harness retainers.

    • Disconnect the RH HO2S, catalyst monitor sensor and the wiring harness retainers.

    • Disconnect the transmission wiring harness electrical connector.

    • Remove the bolt and position the transmission wiring harness aside.

  20. Remove the bolt and position the transmission wiring harness aside.

  21. Remove the wiring harness conduit nut.

    • Position the protective cover aside and remove the generator B+ terminal nut.

    • Disconnect the generator electrical connector.

    • Release the clamps and position the transmission and oil cooler coolant hoses aside.Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

    • Detach the coolant hose retainers.

  23. Release the clamps and remove the transmission cooler coolant hoses.Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

  24. Remove the wiring harness conduit bracket bolt and detach the wiring harness retainer.

  25. Remove the wiring harness bolt, retainer from the LH side of the engine crossmember.

  26. Position the complete wiring harness assembly under the LH engine mount bracket towards the rear of vehicle.

  27. Remove the retainers and the access cover.

  28. NOTE: Using the crankshaft pulley bolt, turn the engine clockwise.

    1. Index mark one stud and the flexplate for assembly reference.
    2. Remove and discard the torque converter nuts.

    • Remove the exhaust flange bolts and detach the exhaust hanger.

    • Clean the catalytic converter-to-muffler sealing surfaces.

  29. Remove and discard the LH catalytic converter flange nuts.

    • Remove and discard the RH catalytic converter flange nuts and position rearward.

    • Clean the catalytic converter-to-exhaust manifold sealing surfaces.

  30. Remove the transmission support crossmember. Refer to: Transmission Support Crossmember .
  31. Lower the rear of the transmission for access to the upper bellhousing bolts.Use the General Equipment: Vehicle/Axle Stands

  32. Remove the upper bellhousing bolts.

  33. Raise the rear of the transmission.Use the General Equipment: Vehicle/Axle Stands

  34. Install the transmission support crossmember. Refer to: Transmission Support Crossmember .
  35. Remove the lower bellhousing bolt.

  36. Position the stand under the transmission bellhousing to support the front of transmission.Use the General Equipment: Vehicle/Axle Stands

    • Remove and discard the engine mount nuts.

    • Using the floor crane, lift the engine from the engine crossmember.Use the General Equipment: Floor Crane
