Engine - LHD AWD

Wooden Block
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: JACKING AND LIFTING - 3.5L DURATEC (202KW 275PS) 3.5L ECOBOOST (235KW 320PS)
  2. Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
  3. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to: BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT - VEHICLES WITH: SINGLE BATTERY or Refer to: BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT - VEHICLES WITH: DUAL BATTERIES
  4. Remove the following items:

    1. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe .
    2. Remove the A/C compressor belt. Refer to: Air Conditioning (A/C) Compressor Belt - Vehicles With: Single Generator . Refer to: Air Conditioning (A/C) Compressor Belt - Vehicles With: Dual Generators .

  5. If equipped with block heater, detach block heater wiring harness retainers.

  6. If equipped with block heater, detach block heater wiring harness retainers and position wiring harness on engine.

    • Follow directions to release the quick release coupling type 5. Disconnect the brake vacuum hose from the upper intake manifold. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING

    • Remove the bolt and position the brake vacuum tubes aside.

  7. Remove the following items:

    1. Remove EVAP purge valve. Refer to: Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Valve .
    2. Remove the cooling module. Refer to: Cooling Module .
    3. Remove the A/C compressor. Refer to: Air Conditioning (A/C) Compressor - 3.5L Duratec (202kW/275PS) .
    4. Remove the LH headlight. Refer to: Headlamp Assembly .

  8. Disconnect the PCM electrical connector, main engine harness connector and wiring harness retainer.

  9. Follow directions to release the quick release coupling type 10. Disconnect the quick release coupling and position the fuel supply tube aside. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING

    • Release the clamps and remove the upper and lower coolant hoses.

    • Release the clamps and position the coolant hoses aside.

  10. Disconnect the coolant hose quick release coupling from the coolant pump.

  11. Disconnect the coolant hoses quick release couplings from the EGR valve.

  12. Disconnect the heater hose quick release coupling.

  13. Remove the front wheels and tires. Refer to: Wheel and Tire .
    • Remove the oil pan drain plug and drain the engine oil.Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment

    • Install the oil drain plug.

      Torque: 26 Nm

  14. Remove and discard the engine oil filter.Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment

  15. Detach the ground wire retainers and position aside.

  16. If equipped with dual generators, remove the secondary generator. Refer to: Generator - 3.5L Duratec (202kW/275PS) .
  17. If equipped with dual generators, remove the bolts, stud bolt and the generator bracket.

  18. Remove the AWD transmission. Refer to: TRANSMISSION
  19. Remove the wiring harness conduit nut.

  20. Release the wiring harness retainer and position the harness aside.

    • Position the protective cover aside and remove the generator B+ terminal nut.

    • Disconnect the generator electrical connector.

    • Release the clamp and position the coolant hose aside.Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

    • Detach the transmission and oil coolant hose retainers.

    • Release the clamps and remove the transmission and oil cooler coolant hoses.Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

  21. Remove the wiring harness conduit bracket bolt and detach the wiring harness retainer.

  22. Remove the wiring harness bolt, retainer from the LH side of the engine crossmember.

  23. Position the complete wiring harness assembly under the LH engine mount bracket towards the rear of vehicle.

  24. NOTE: Board configuration may vary between powertrain lift tables.

    Position the powertrain lift table under the engine crossmember and support the front of the oil pan with wood blocks.Use the General Equipment: Wooden Block

  25. Install the adjustable mounting arm to the LH side of the engine crossmember.Use the General Equipment: Adjustable Mounting Arm

  27. Remove and discard the LH engine crossmember bracket bolts.

  32. Using the powertrain lift table lower the engine from the vehicle.

  34. Install the LH engine lift eye.Use Special Service Tool: 303-1245 Engine Lift Eye.

    • Remove and discard the engine mount nuts.

    • Using the floor crane, lift the engine from the engine crossmember.Use the General Equipment: Floor Crane
