Valve Cover LH: Installation

  1. NOTE: Installation of new seals is only required if damaged seals were removed.

    If removed, using the special tools, install the spark plug tube seals.Use Special Service Tool: 303-1247 VCT Spark Plug Tube Seal Remover and Installer., 205-153 (T80T-4000-W) Handle.

  2. NOTE: Installation of new seals is only required if damaged seals were removed.

    If removed, using the special tools, install the VCT oil control solenoid seals.Use Special Service Tool: 205-142 (T80T-4000-J) Installer, Differential Bearing Cone., 205-153 (T80T-4000-W) Handle.

  3. NOTE: If the valve cover is not installed and the fasteners tightened within 4 minutes, the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned.

    Apply an 8 mm (0.31 in) drop of Motorcraft® High Performance Engine RTV Silicone to the engine front cover-to-cylinder head joints.

    Material: RTV silicone sealant (WSE-M4G323-A6)

  4. Install a new valve cover gasket.

  5. Install the valve cover and tighten the bolts.

    Torque: 10 Nm

  6. Make sure the VCT seals in the valve cover are below the top of the VCT oil control solenoid electrical connector or the VCT seal may leak oil.

    • Position the wiring harness and attach the wiring harness retainers.

    • Connect the VCT oil control solenoid electrical connectors.

  8. Install the following items:

    1. Install the high-pressure fuel pump. Refer to: High-Pressure Fuel Pump .
    2. Install the LH ignition coil-on-plugs. Refer to: Ignition Coil-On-Plug .

    • Install the brake vacuum tube bracket and the nuts.

      Torque: 7 Nm

    • Attach the wiring harness retainer.

  10. Follow directions to connect the quick release coupling type 3. Install the crankcase vent tube. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING

  11. Install the oil level indicator.

    • Follow directions to connect the quick release coupling type 5. Position the brake vacuum tubes and install the bolt. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING Quick Release Coupling (310-00H).

      Torque: 7 Nm

    • Connect the brake vacuum hose to the upper intake manifold.

  13. If equipped with block heater, attach block heater wiring harness retainers.

  14. Install the air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe (303-12H).
