Upper Intake Manifold: Installation

  1. NOTE: If the engine is repaired or replaced because of upper engine failure, typically including valve or piston damage, check the intake manifold for metal debris. If metal debris is found, install a new intake manifold. Failure to follow these instructions can result in engine damage.

    Inspect the intake manifold for damage or metal debris.

  2. Install the upper intake manifold and the bolts.

    Torque: Stage 1: 10 Nm Stage 2: 45deg.

  3. Install the following items:

    1. Install the EGR valve outlet tube. Refer to: Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Outlet Tube .
    2. Install the differential pressure feedback EGR valve sensor. Refer to: Differential Pressure Feedback Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Sensor .

  4. Connect the MAPT sensor electrical connector and wiring harness retainers.

  5. Follow directions to connect the quick release coupling type 3. Connect the PCV tube quick connect coupling from the intake manifold. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING

    • Install the upper intake manifold support bracket bolt.

      Torque: 10 Nm

    • NOTE: When connecting the throttle body electrical connector engage the red connector locking tab after fully installing the throttle body electrical connector. The red tab will not slide forward unless the throttle body electrical connector is fully installed.

      Connect the throttle body electrical connector and attach the wire harness retainer.

    • Position and attach the EVAP canister purge valve.

    • Attach the EVAP canister purge valve tube retainers.

    • Follow directions to connect the quick release coupling type 17. Connect the EVAP canister purge valve tube quick connect coupling from the intake manifold. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING

  8. Position the crankcase vent tube towards the intake manifold.

    • Follow directions to connect the quick release coupling type 5. Position the brake vacuum tubes and install the bolt. Refer to: QUICK RELEASE COUPLING

      Torque: 7 Nm

    • Connect the brake vacuum hose to the upper intake manifold.

  10. Install the air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe .
  11. If a new intake manifold was installed, road test the vehicle.
