Oil Pump: Removal

NOTE:
During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces, that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan may cause engine failure.
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: JACKING AND LIFTING - 3.5L DURATEC (202KW 275PS) 3.5L ECOBOOST (235KW 320PS)
- Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to: BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT - VEHICLES WITH: SINGLE BATTERY . Refer to: BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT - VEHICLES WITH: DUAL BATTERIES
- Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to:REMOVAL

NOTE: RH shown, LH similar.
Remove and discard the RH and LH engine mount nuts.
- Remove the following items:
- If equipped with AWD (all-wheel drive), remove the front axle assembly. Refer to: Axle Assembly .
- Remove the starter motor. Refer to: Starter Motor .

- Remove the oil pan drain plug and drain the engine oil.Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment
- Install the oil drain plug.
Torque: 26 Nm
- Remove and discard the engine oil filter.Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment
- Detach the ground wire retainers and position aside.
- Remove and discard the bolts and remove the lower load path bars.
- If equipped with dual generators, remove the A/C compressor. Refer to: REMOVAL
- If equipped with dual generators, remove the secondary generator. Refer to: Generator - 3.5L Duratec (202kW/275PS) .
- If equipped with dual generators, remove the bolts, stud bolt and the generator bracket.
- Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector and detach the wiring harness retainer.
- Disconnect the LH catalyst monitor sensor and the wiring harness retainer.
- Disconnect the RH HO2S and catalyst monitor sensor and the wiring harness retainer.

- Position the catalyst monitor sensor wiring harness and retainer under the fuel tube.
- If equipped with AWD, disconnect the transfer case wiring harness electrical connector and the wiring harness retainers.
- If equipped with AWD, detach the transfer case vent tube retainers and position aside.

- If equipped with AWD, disconnect the transmission wiring harness electrical connector.
- Remove the bolt and position the transmission wiring harness aside.
- Remove the bolt and position the transmission wiring harness aside.
- Remove the wiring harness conduit nut.
- Release the wiring harness retainer and position the harness aside.

- Position the protective cover aside and remove the generator B+ terminal nut.
- Disconnect the generator electrical connector.
- Remove the wiring harness conduit bracket bolt and detach the wiring harness retainer.
- Remove the wiring harness bolt, retainer from the LH side of the engine crossmember.
- Position the complete wiring harness assembly aside.
- Remove the oil pan bolt and stud bolt.
- Remove the oil pan stud bolt.

- Detach the coolant hose retainer.
- Remove the bolt and position the oil cooler aside.
- Remove the engine front cover. Refer to: Engine Front Cover .
- Install the original crankshaft pulley bolt and washer.

NOTE: Rotate the crankshaft in a clockwise direction only.
Using the crankshaft bolt, align the timing marks.
- Remove the bolts and the LH oil tube.

NOTE: The Camshaft Holding Tool will hold the camshafts in the TDC position.
Install Special Service Tool: 303-1248 Camshaft holding tools.
- Remove the bolts and the RH oil tube.

NOTE: The Camshaft Holding Tool will hold the camshafts in the TDC position.
Install Special Service Tool: 303-1248 Camshaft holding tools.
NOTE: The following 3 steps are for primary timing chains that the colored links are not visible. - Mark the timing chain link that aligns with the timing mark on the LH intake VCT unit as shown.
- Mark the timing chain link that aligns with the timing mark on the RH intake VCT unit as shown.

NOTE: The crankshaft sprocket timing mark should be between the 2 colored links.
Mark the timing chain links that aligns with the timing mark on the crankshaft sprocket as shown.
- Remove the bolts and the timing chain tensioner.
- Remove the timing chain tensioner arm.
- Remove the bolts and the lower LH timing chain guide.
- Position the timing chain aside and remove the crankshaft sprocket.
- Install the stands under the RH engine mount bracket and under the engine front cover generator tab.Use the General Equipment: Vehicle/Axle Stands

Remove and discard the RH and LH engine mount bolts from the bottom of the engine crossmember.
- With the aid of an assistant, remove and discard the engine crossmember bolts and remove the engine crossmember.
- Remove the oil pan bolts.
- Using a pry tool on the pry pads shown, remove the oil pan.
- Clean and prepare the RTV sealing surface. Refer to: RTV Sealing Surface Cleaning and Preparation

- Remove the bolts and oil pump screen and pickup tube.
- Remove and discard the oil pump screen and pickup tube O-ring seal.
- Remove the bolts and oil pump.
