Front Halfshaft LH: Removal

NOTE:
Suspension fasteners are critical parts that affect the performance of vital components and systems. Failure of these fasteners may result in major service expense. Use the same or equivalent parts if replacement is necessary. Do not use a replacement part of lesser quality or substitute design. Tighten fasteners as specified.
NOTE:
Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
- If equipped.Remove the wheel center cap.
- Loosen the wheel hub nut.
- Remove the wheels and tires. Refer to: Wheel and Tire . Refer to: Wheel and Tire - Vehicles With: Dual Rear Wheels .

NOTE: This step requires the aid of another technician.
While an assistant applies the brake, remove and discard the wheel hub nut.

NOTE: Do not allow the brake caliper and anchor plate assembly to hang from the brake hose or damage to the hose can occur.
Remove and discard the 2 brake caliper anchor plate bolts and position aside the brake caliper and anchor plate assembly.
- Remove and discard the lower ball joint nut.

NOTE: Do not use a prying device or separator fork between the ball joint and the wheel knuckle. Damage to the ball joint or ball joint seal may result. Only use the pry bar by inserting it into the lower arm body opening.NOTE: Use care when releasing the lower arm and wheel knuckle into the resting position or damage to the ball joint seal may occur.
Separate the lower control arm from the lower ball joint.Use the General Equipment: Two Leg Puller

NOTE: This step is only necessary when installing a new component to the left-hand side.
Rotate the steering wheel fully to the RH side.

NOTE: This step is only necessary when installing a new component to the right-hand side.
Rotate the steering wheel fully to the LH side.
- Using a 3-leg puller, separate the wheel hub and brake disc assembly from the halfshaft. Support the halfshaft.Use the General Equipment: Three Leg Puller

NOTE: Make sure that the strut is not moved more than necessary to prevent damage to top mount.NOTE: The outer constant velocity (CV) joint must not be bent more than 45deg..
Separate the outer CV joint from the wheel end.

NOTE: Take extra care not to damage the mating faces.NOTE: Take extra care not to damage the seal.NOTE: Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.
- Disconnect the inner CV joint and remove the halfshaft.Use the General Equipment: Tire Lever
- Remove and discard the snap ring and oil seal.
