Differential Housing Cover: Removal

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: JACKING AND LIFTING .
  2. Detach the wheel speed sensor wire harness retainers. Position the wheel speed sensor wiring harness aside.

  3. NOTE: Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.

    Remove the differential cover stud bolts and the differential cover bolts. Remove the differential cover.

  4. Remove and discard the differential housing gasket.

  5. NOTE: Remove the gasket and make sure the surfaces are free of oil.

    Clean the gasket mating surface of the axle and the differential housing cover. Refer to: RTV Sealing Surface Cleaning and Preparation
