Differential Carrier - Vehicles With: Limited-Slip Differential: Assembly

  1. Lubricate the differential steel clutch plates. Soak the differential friction plates for no less than 15 minutes.

    Material : Friction Modifier (EST-M2C118-A)

  2. NOTE: Do not mix the clutch plates, clutch discs or shim from one side with the other.
    NOTE: The Belleville spring is a dished plate.

    Assemble the differential clutch packs, side gear thrust washers on the respective differential side gears.

  3. NOTE: Do not use more than 2 shims per side.

    With the special tool removed, Install the shim on the differential side gear and clutch pack assembly.

  4. Lubricate and install the differential side gear assemblies in the differential case.

    Material : Gear/Transmission Fluid - SAE 75W-85 (WSS-M2C942-A)

  5. NOTE: Hold the differential side gear assembly in place to prevent it from falling out of the differential case.

    Position the differential side gear assembly in the differential carrier.

  6. NOTE: Lubricate both sides of the differential pinion gear thrust washers with axle lubricant.
    NOTE: Make sure the differential pinion gears are 180 degrees apart so they will align correctly with the pinion shaft bore.

    Position the differential pinion gears and differential pinion gear thrust washers in the window of the differential case so they mesh with the differential side gear teeth.

  7. Rotate the differential pinion gears to align the differential pinion shaft bore.

  8. NOTE: It will probably be necessary to loosen or tighten the forcing screw to allow the differential pinion gears and differential side gears to rotate.

    Using the special tool, rotate the differential pinion gears to align with the differential pinion shaft bore and remove the special tool. Use Special Service Tool: 205-386 (T97T-4205-D) Gauge, Differential (Traction Lock).

  9. NOTE: If a new differential pinion shaft lock bolt is unavailable, coat the threads of the original differential pinion shaft bolt with thread lock prior to installation.

    Insert the differential pinion shaft, and install a new differential pinion shaft lock bolt.

    Material : Thread Locking Adhesive (WSK-M2G351-A6)

    Torque : 34 Nm

  10. Install the ring gear onto the differential carrier. Align the ring gear using 3 new bolts. Using the general equipment: press the ring gear into place. Use the General Equipment: Hydraulic Press

  11. NOTE: Tighten the ring gear bolts in a cross pattern.

    Install the remaining new ring gear bolts.

    Torque : Stage 1: 60 Nm Stage 2: 90deg.

  12. Using the general equipment, install the new differential bearings. Use Special Service Tool: 205-D044 (D81T-4221-A) Installer, Differential Carrier Bearing.

  13. Install the differential carrier. Refer to: Differential Carrier
